Thanks to you, our sponsors and participants, the Women’s 5K Classic has thus far distributed $198,600.00 to area agencies from the 2011 event. This brings our grand total to $1,852,144.00. Agencies and programs funded in 2011:

ALLENTOWN YMCA/YWCA ENCORE BREAST CANCER RECOVERY PROGRAM which offers programs, support, fitness classes to support women for their physical, mental and emotional well-being.

BLUE MOUNTAIN HEALTH SYSTEM FOR THE WOMEN’S CANCER EDUCATION, OUTREACH, SCREENING AND DIGITAL MAMMOGRAPHY/DIAGNOSTIC ULTRASOUND PROGRAM which offers reduced fees for screening, education, physicals and family history.

CANCER SUPPORT COMMUNITY COMPREHENSIVE BREAST AND GYNECOLOGICAL CANCER SUPPORT PROGRAM which offers free programs of support, education and stress reduction while emphasizing hope, control and acceptance.

DIAKON LUTHERAN SERVICES FOR THE GIRLS ON THE RUN PROGRAM which is a running and empowering program for girls in grades 3-8. It combines physical training with the teaching of important life skills.

GOOD SHEPHERD REHABILITAION HOSPITAL FOR THEIR OUTPATIENT THERAPY, LYMPHEDEMA PROGRAM which provides garments to relieve swelling after surgery to uninsured and underinsured women.

LEHIGH VALLEY CHAPTER OF THE ONCOLOGY NURSING SOCIETY for 5 scholarships to members of the chapter who would like to pursue specialty certification in oncology nursing.

LEHIGH VALLEY HEALTH NETWORK/CANCER SUPPORT FOR THEIR TRAVELING TOWARDS SURVIVORSHIP PROGRAM which pays for rides for cancer patients to and from treatment, fitness programs and lymphedema garments to those women who are either uninsured or underinsured.

SACRED HEART HOSPITAL REACHING OUT FOR HEALTHY WOMEN PROGRAM which provides education, support and treatment as well as emergency contingency funds to women in their demographic area. Outreach is provided to non English speaking women.

ST. LUKE’S HOSPITAL CANCER CENTER SOCIAL WORK FUND to provide emergency funding to women cancer patients for special needs during treatment. A fitness path at the new Anderson Cancer Center to promote fitness and give a place to commune with nature and reflection.

WELLER HEALTH EDUCATION CENTER’S BETTER START EARLY PROGRAM which educates high school girls about breast self examinations and breast cancer symptoms.

WOMEN’S 5K CLASSIC ENDOWMENT FUND which receives a distribution each year to create a fund for future emergency use.
