With a generous grant from the WOMEN’S 5K CLASSIC, the Weller Center expanded the impact and scope of its proven BSE: Better Start Early program through the development and dissemination of a first-of-its-kind school-based breast self-exam curriculum targeting high school-aged women. Utilizing the principles of Weller’s BSE: Better Start Early outreach program, our team of curriculum development and health education specialists created Better Start Early teaching kit for teachers which includes a standards-based teaching guide, instructional DVD, breast models and other supporting multimedia to enable all high school health teachers in the Lehigh Valley to present our signature program to their female students and empower young women to recognize the risk factors and symptoms of breast and other female cancers.
We are pleased to announce the “Better Start Early” instructional video program was nominated for a 2015 Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award. “Better Start Early” was produced by Weller Center President & CEO Melissa Lee and Weller Center Health Educator Erin Postel in collaboration with Video Production Partner FIRE ROCK PRODUCTIONS.
