At the heart of the Women’s 5K Classic is a simple but powerful belief: when women have access to preventative care, entire communities are stronger.
Recently, members of our Grant Committee had the opportunity to see that impact firsthand during a visit to Valley Health Partners Community Health Center in Allentown—one of our grant recipients. What we experienced was more than just a healthcare facility; it was a place where compassion, expertise, and access come together to change lives.
Stepping Inside the Work We Support
From the moment we arrived, what stood out was the environment itself. The women’s health floor is thoughtfully designed to feel both clinical and welcoming—more like a full hospital unit than a typical outpatient clinic.
Our group toured the space, including the waiting area, procedure rooms, and OB exam rooms, and got a closer look at the equipment used every day to care for patients. Seeing it all firsthand brought a new level of understanding to the coordination and attention required for even routine screenings.
One of the most impactful moments came during a conversation with Dr. Lim, who spoke about the importance of colposcopies. These procedures play a critical role in detecting cervical abnormalities early—often before they develop into more serious conditions. It was a powerful reminder that preventative care isn’t just important—it’s lifesaving.
Investing in Early Detection
This year, the Women’s 5K Classic is proud to award a generous grant to Valley Health Partners to support routine cancer screenings for uninsured and underinsured women. These funds are helping provide:
- Mammograms
- Pap tests
- Access to a colposcopy clinic for essential follow-up care
By focusing on screenings and early diagnosis, this initiative ensures that women receive care at the moments it matters most. Early detection leads to better outcomes, more treatment options, and greater peace of mind.
Care That Meets People Where They Are
Another meaningful part of our visit was meeting members of the clinical and support teams. In particular, we were struck by the presence of translators who help bridge language gaps for patients. Their work is a vital part of ensuring that every woman—regardless of background or primary language—can access and understand the care she receives.
This commitment to accessible, patient-centered care reflects the broader mission of Valley Health Partners and aligns deeply with our own.
A Legacy of Impact
Since 1993, the Women’s 5K Classic has proudly invested more than $4,500,000 into nonprofit programs serving the Lehigh Valley community. Each grant represents more than funding—it’s a partnership rooted in trust, shared values, and a commitment to improving women’s health.
We are honored to have Valley Health Partners Community Health Center as one of our impactful organizations.
Moving Forward Together
Our visit left us inspired and energized, with a deeper appreciation for the work being done behind the scenes—from medical providers to support staff—to ensure every patient receives thorough, compassionate care.
It also reinforced why we do what we do.
Every step taken during the Women’s 5K Classic—every participant, volunteer, and supporter—helps make this kind of care possible.
And that is something truly worth running for.
