Women’s 5K Classic:  Proceeds to benefit the fight against Breast and other Gynecologic Cancers

We did it!  The Women’s 5K Classic held the 29th W5K 3.1 mile run/walk on October 3rd in the Lehigh Parkway with over 2,000 women registered. We thank our sponsors, volunteers and participants who made the event this year a reality, as well as a success.

Since 1993, the W5K classic is proud to have been able to distribute over $3,700,000 to non-profit programs within the Greater Lehigh Valley.  This year, $173,000 will be allocated to worthy programs benefitting over 11,000 Lehigh Valley women. 

Programs funded include:

Allentown YMCA-Beautiful You Breast Cancer Recovery Program providing support for women with cancer. Exercise programs, healthy living conversations and camaraderie are the main focus of this program. 

Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center promoting and educating women especially LGBT members on the importance of mammograms and cancer screenings.

Cancer Support Community of the Greater Lehigh Valley providing the breast and gynecological cancer support groups exercise classes and support on the emotions and stresses of dealing with cancer.

Girls on the Run providing scholarships for girls, grades 3- 8 for a running and educational program designed to boost self-esteem, team values, confidence and maintenance of positive health and nutritional habits.

Lehigh Valley Health Network Cancer Institute receiving funds for the fallback fund for women who have a metastasis or recurrence of their cancer and are having financial distress.   LVHN Lymphedema Program for garments for women to relieve swelling due to cancer treatments. Topper Cancer Institute providing for cutting edge cancer research of gene editing of t cells.

Planned Parenthood Keystone – a grant for cancer screening programs which includes pap tests, diagnostic colposcopies, breast cancer screenings.

St. Luke’s University Hospital Cancer Center receiving funds for compassionate care which helps women who have financial burdens during cancer treatment. 

St. Luke’s Sacred Heart Hospital campus parish nursing/community outreach program that provides education in many languages on the importance of getting proper cancer screenings. The fund also covers treatment and procedures for women needing financial assistance.

St. Luke’s Lehighton Campus providing for screening and diagnostic mammography studies for uninsured and underinsured women.       

Pink Pumpkins Coins 4 Chemo for holiday food/dinner for metastatic breast cancer warriors and their families.

Allentown Parks Department supporting the parks department and the work that they do to keep the park a safe and beautiful Lehigh Valley treasure in which to participate in outdoor activities including the Women’s 5K Classic each year.
